Styles
Use Settings > Styles to set the account-wide default appearance for routes, tracklogs, and waypoints. These defaults sync with your account and sit above the folders in your library.
This is a reference to how the style hierarchy works. For the steps used on a folder, see Folders and Organisation.
Account-Wide Defaults
Choose the Route, Tracklog, or Waypoint tab. Each tab has a complete set of defaults for that type.
- Route and Tracklog include Activity, line colour, line style, base line width, labels, markers, arrows, and On-screen width range.
- Waypoint includes the icon, icon size, and map-text choices. No icon is a valid default.
A change here affects every folder or item that inherits the changed property. It does not replace an explicit choice made lower in the hierarchy.
The defaults sync across supported devices. They are content styles, not just display settings for the device you are using.
How Inheritance Works
OMN4 looks for each property in this order:
- The route, tracklog, or waypoint itself.
- Its nearest folder, then each folder above it.
- The relevant account-wide default in Settings > Styles.
An unset property inherits from the next level up. The parent may itself inherit, so the effective value can continue through several folders before reaching the account-wide default.
In Properties:
<value> (set)means the value is explicitly set on the item or folder you are editing.Use <value> from parentmeans the property will inherit the value currently supplied by its parent.
Properties shows the effective value and whether it is set here or inherited from the parent. It does not name the folder where the value was first set.
Inherited And Explicit Values
An inherited Blue and Blue (set) can look identical. They do not behave identically:
- The inherited Blue follows a later change to its parent.
Blue (set)stays Blue until you choose the parent value or use Reset.
Changing one property saves only that choice. Other properties keep their existing inherited or explicit state.
Reset And No Icon
Reset means “inherit again”. On a folder, use Reset Route, Reset Tracklog, or Reset Waypoint to clear that domain's local overrides together.
For a single property, choose Use <value> from parent to clear only that local choice.
No Icon (set) is different from Reset. It deliberately shows no icon and remains in force when a parent icon changes. Choose the parent icon to inherit again.
Line Width And On-Screen Range
Line width is the base width of a route or tracklog.
On-screen width range in Settings contains one Minimum and Maximum pair. A folder can override the same pair in On-screen Width Range. The two values inherit and reset together; individual routes and tracklogs inherit the range rather than setting another local range.
As you zoom, OMN4 scales the base line width but keeps the on-screen result within the inherited Minimum and Maximum. The range affects the screen only. It does not set print width.
Moving Items
Moving an inheriting item changes its parent chain. It may therefore change appearance when it adopts the destination folder's styles.
An explicitly styled item keeps only its actual local choices when moved. Every other property follows the destination hierarchy. OMN4 does not copy the old folder's inherited appearance onto the item.
Activity Types
Activity is an independently inherited classification used for behaviour and calculations. It does not supply route or tracklog colour or line style.
Set the default Activity on the Route or Tracklog tab in Settings > Styles. A folder or item can set a different Activity or inherit from its parent. See Activity Types for the calculation controls.
Other Style-Related Preferences
Not every nearby setting is an inherited content style.
- Colour and icon choices offered by an editor are selection aids; they do not style an item until you choose one.
- Warn before displaying very large route and track point sets is a display/performance preference under Settings > Units. It is not part of style inheritance.
After The Styles Upgrade
Routes and tracklogs that previously relied on an Activity colour or pattern may use a different inherited style. A legacy waypoint with no saved icon choice may gain the inherited Waypoint icon.
Use the account-wide default for a broad change, a folder for a group, or Properties for one item. If the app is still completing the upgrade refresh, follow Styles Update and Full Refresh before changing data.
