Waypoints
Waypoints are single saved locations such as summits, car parks, meeting points, or anything else you want to mark on the map.
Add A Waypoint
The confirmed map action is Add Waypoint.
- Open the map at the location you want to save.
- Open the map action menu.
- Choose Add Waypoint.
- Check the saved point in Routes, Tracks & Waypoints.
When another tool shows Add Waypoint, such as a grid reference, latitude and longitude, or a search result with a valid location, use that action to save the location as a waypoint.
Where Waypoints Go
If there is not already a Waypoints folder, OMN4 creates one. New map waypoints are stored in a date-named waypoint group so recent points are easy to find.
Use Waypoints
Waypoints can be:
- shown on the map
- organised into folders
- exported or shared in GPX
- synced to your other OMN4 devices
Change Or Inherit An Icon
- Open the waypoint or waypoint group's Properties.
- Choose Waypoint or Point, as shown for that selection.
- Choose an icon to set it locally, or choose the parent icon to inherit.
An explicit icon is shown as (set). It stays local when the parent changes or the item moves.
Choose No Icon (set) when you deliberately want no icon. This is not Reset. To inherit again, choose Use <icon> from parent or use Reset Waypoint on a folder.
Expected result: an inherited icon follows later folder changes; an explicit icon or No Icon (set) does not.
Tips
- Give important waypoints clear names before you build a large collection.
- If you are using coordinates or grid references to add waypoints, double-check the location before you save.
- Use folders when you want to keep trip waypoints separate from general reference points.
