GPX Import and Export

GPX is a common exchange format for routes, tracks, and waypoints. Use it when you want to move saved outdoor data between OMN4 and another app, GPS device, or file archive.

Import GPX

  1. Open Routes, Tracks & Waypoints.
  2. Choose the folder you want to import into, or create one with New Folder.
  3. Use Import GPX.
  4. Select the GPX file.
  5. Review the preview and select the items you want.
  6. Continue with the import.

OMN4 imports the selected GPX content into the target location. Imported files are grouped under folder or file-derived structure so they are easier to find after import.

Import A Folder Of GPX Files

On desktop, Import Folder reads a folder of GPX files and shows a preview before importing.

  1. Open Routes, Tracks & Waypoints.
  2. Select the folder you want to import into.
  3. Choose Import Folder.
  4. Select the folder of GPX files.
  5. Review the preview, choose the items to import, and continue.

If the destination already contains a folder with the same name, OMN4 merges imported items into that folder and shows a warning. There is no separate import-structure setting to choose during import.

Export GPX

Use export when you want a portable file copy of a route, track, waypoint group, or suitable folder.

  • On desktop, use Export GPX for a selected item.
  • On mobile, the equivalent action is Share GPX.
  • A folder can use Export GPX only when it does not contain sub-folders.
  • Selected multi-export is for selections made up of routes and tracks, not folders.

Desktop Bulk Export

Desktop also has larger export workflows:

  • Export All writes out a larger collection from the library.
  • Export Folder writes out one selected folder.

These are desktop file workflows because they need folder access.

Legacy Export

Legacy Export is separate from normal GPX export. It is for OMN2/3 migration or compatibility workflows, so do not use it as the everyday way to share GPX with other systems.

Good To Know

  • GPX is useful for sharing with other mapping and GPS systems.
  • Exported GPX captures route, track, and waypoint data, but it is not a full backup of the whole OMN4 app state.
  • GPX may not preserve every OMN4 setting, style, folder structure, or account detail.
  • For a broader data safety strategy, use sync and backup as well as GPX where appropriate.
  • Moving data between OMN2/3 and OMN4 uses a separate bridge workflow. See Move Data Between OMN2/3 and OMN4.
