Folders and Organisation
Folders keep your library organised and pass inherited properties to their contents.
Create A Folder
- Open Routes, Tracks & Waypoints.
- Use New Folder.
- Give the folder a short, clear name.
The new folder initially inherits its Route, Tracklog, and Waypoint properties from its parent.
Set Folder Styles
- Open the folder's Properties.
- Choose the Route, Tracklog, or Waypoint tab.
- Change only the properties this folder should own.
- Leave other choices on Use <value> from parent.
Expected result: descendants that inherit a changed property update to the folder's value. Explicit choices on a child remain unchanged.
The three tabs are independent. For example, a folder can make routes Blue without changing tracklogs or waypoints in the same folder.
Reset A Folder Domain
Use Reset Route, Reset Tracklog, or Reset Waypoint to clear that tab's local choices.
Expected result: the folder inherits that domain from its parent again, and inheriting descendants follow the effective parent values.
To reset one property only, choose Use <value> from parent for that property.
Set An On-Screen Width Range
Folders can override the complete on-screen width range for routes or tracklogs.
- Open the folder's Properties.
- Choose Route or Tracklog.
- Find On-screen Width Range.
- Set Min and Max together.
Expected result: inheriting lines scale while you zoom but stay within the folder's range. The pair is one setting; Reset clears both values together. Individual routes and tracklogs inherit this range.
Move Items
Use Move... to put a route, tracklog, waypoint group, or folder elsewhere in the library.
- An inheriting item adopts its destination folder's values. Its appearance may change immediately.
- An explicitly styled item keeps only the choices shown as
(set). Its other properties adopt the destination hierarchy. - OMN4 does not save the old folder's inherited appearance as new local values.
If a moved item looks different, open Properties and compare (set) choices with Use <value> from parent. Reset any local choice that should follow the destination folder.
No Icon In A Folder
On the Waypoint tab, No Icon (set) deliberately hides inherited icons for that folder's waypoints. It is not Reset.
Choose the parent icon or use Reset Waypoint when the folder should inherit icons again.
Sort And Show Items
Showing or hiding an item changes whether it appears on the map. It does not delete it or change its styles.
On desktop, folder actions can include Sort. On mobile, the same choice may appear as Sort A-Z or Sort Z-A.
Useful library-wide actions include Hide all for a clear map and Collapse all for a shorter tree.
Imports And Exports
Choose the destination folder before importing GPX when you want imported items to inherit from that folder.
On desktop, folders can also use Import Folder and Export Folder for larger GPX workflows. Normal Export GPX is for a selected route, tracklog, waypoint group, or a folder without sub-folders.
