Create a Route

Create a route when you want to plan where you intend to go. Route plotting is a map task, so start from the map screen and use Edit Mode.

Before You Start

Pan and zoom the map to the area where the route begins. Desktop is usually easier for long or precise routes, but the same route-planning workflow is available on mobile.

Create The Route

  1. Open the map in the area you want to work in.
  2. Turn on Edit Mode.
  3. Open the map action menu at the route start and choose Start Route.
  4. Tap or click the map to add route points in order.
  5. Pan and zoom as needed, then keep adding points.
  6. Choose End Route when the line is complete.

If you leave Edit Mode while a route is still being plotted, OMN4 asks whether to finish it or keep plotting.

What To Expect

OMN4 saves the route in your Routes, Tracks & Waypoints library. If there is not already a Routes folder, OMN4 creates one for you.

The route is given a default name until you rename it. After saving, you can:

  • use Properties... to rename or review details
  • use Points Explorer to inspect the route point by point
  • use desktop profile tools when you want to check the shape of the route
  • sync it if you want it on another OMN4 device

Tips

  • Add enough points to follow the map clearly, but avoid unnecessary small movements.
  • Zoom in before placing points around junctions, gates, or close contour detail.
  • Review the finished route before using it in the field.
