Grid References

Use Go to Grid Reference when you already know a British National Grid reference and want OMN4 to move the map there or create a waypoint.

Open The Tool

From the map, open Goto Grid Reference.

On desktop, this opens a separate window titled Go to Grid Reference. On mobile, it opens an in-app page with the same title.

In the Grid Reference dropdown, choose British National Grid.

Enter A Grid Reference

You can work in two ways:

  • enter a full grid reference with the two-letter square, such as ST 123 456
  • turn off Use prefix letters and enter easting and northing separately

If you use numeric eastings and northings, choose the Precision that matches the numbers you are entering.

Use Paste grid reference if you copied a grid reference from OMN4 or another source. OMN4 can detect supported pasted British National Grid, latitude/longitude, and UTM text and switch the Grid Reference dropdown when needed.

Go Or Save

After OMN4 accepts the entry:

  • tap Go to move the map there
  • tap Add Waypoint to save the location as a waypoint as well

If the buttons are not available, check the grid square letters, the number of digits, and the selected Precision.

Tips

  • Enter an even number of grid-reference digits so OMN4 can split easting and northing correctly.
  • If the result looks wrong, check the grid square letters first.
  • Numeric entry depends on the selected Precision. For example, shorter eastings and northings represent a less precise location.
