Search Places
Use Search when you know the name of the place, road, postcode, or feature you want to find.
On desktop, Search opens in its own window. On mobile, it opens as an in-app page.
Before You Start
OMN4 needs place data on the device before it can search offline. If the Search page shows Download Place Data, download that first.
Place data is separate from map downloads. Downloading place data lets Search find places; downloading maps lets OMN4 display map tiles without a connection.
Search For A Place
- Open Search from the map.
- Type at least 3 characters into Search for places...
- Wait for OMN4 to return the matching results.
- Tap or click the result you want.
OMN4 then moves the map to that location.
View Place Info
Use Place Info when you want to check more detail before moving the map.
- Open Search and run a search.
- Use the info button beside the result.
- Review the place name, position, town or county, country, and feature type where those details are available.
- Use Go to move the map there, or Add Waypoint to save the location as a waypoint.
Place Info stays inside the Search flow. It is not a separate desktop window.
If Search Data Is Missing
The Search page shows a download prompt when place data is not ready yet. During setup you may see status text such as Downloading place data or Building place data for offline search.
If downloads are blocked, OMN4 can show Downloads are disabled in Settings > Data. Open Settings > Data if you need to allow downloads again.
If the status is waiting for WiFi, leave the download queued until WiFi is available or change the data setting if you want to allow the transfer another way.
Notes
- Search is designed to work offline once the place data has been downloaded.
- Very broad searches can return a lot of results. If that happens, refine the text or use Search Filters.
- If OMN4 says it is showing the top results, make the search text more specific.
