Data Usage
Use Settings > Data on iOS and Android to control when OMN4 can use the network for maps.
These settings matter most on mobile devices, where you may move between WiFi and cellular coverage during planning or a trip.
Main Controls
- Map Streaming controls whether OMN4 can fetch streamed map data as you view the map.
- Map Download controls whether OMN4 can download offline map data.
Each control can be set to:
- Disabled
- WiFi Only
- WiFi and Cellular
This means you can allow one kind of map access and restrict the other. For example, you might allow streaming over cellular but keep large downloads on WiFi Only.
Changing Download Access
If current or queued downloads exist, changing Map Download can show Cancel current downloads?.
If you confirm, OMN4 can cancel current and queued downloads so the new setting can take effect. If you cancel the prompt, the previous Map Download setting is restored.
Good To Know
- Turning off network access for maps does not remove existing downloaded maps.
- If Map Streaming is blocked, some map detail may not load until you reconnect, change the setting, or download that area.
- If Map Download is set to WiFi Only, queued downloads may wait until WiFi is available.
- On desktop, OMN4 does not normally use the same mobile connectivity controls.
For the concept behind streaming and offline maps, see Streaming vs Offline. That page explains when streamed map data is useful and when a deliberate offline download is safer.
