Overview
Use Printing when you want a paper map for planning, a route pack, or a backup copy to carry away from the screen.
Printing is primarily a desktop workflow on Windows and macOS. It works from the map screen, so you can keep the map in view while OMN4 shows the print boxes that will be sent to the printer.
Open Print Mode
On desktop, you can open print mode from:
- the app menu Print action
- Ctrl+P on Windows
- Cmd+P on macOS
- the Print FAB on the map screen
When print mode opens, the toolbar appears above the map. The layout button shows the current layout, such as Single page. The zoom or scale button shows the current value, such as 100% or 1:25k. The Print Settings gear opens printer, orientation, grid, overlap, and scale controls.
What You Can Print
- one page centred on the current map view
- a larger area across two or more pages
- a route or track using Best fit
- a map at a chosen zoom or printed scale
- grid lines and grid numbers when you need grid reference support
For route and track printing, start from the route or track where possible. The Print action there opens print mode with Best fit already selected for that item.
What To Expect
Black print boxes on the map show the area that will be printed. They update when you change layout, zoom, scale, orientation, printer settings, or page overlap.
You can still move the map while print mode is open. Use the print boxes to position the area before you select Print.
If the map tiles needed for the print are not already available, OMN4 may ask to download them before printing.
