Scale and Layout
Use Scale and Layout settings to decide how much map appears on each page and how multiple pages are arranged.
The layout and zoom or scale controls are value buttons on the print toolbar. The layout button shows the current layout, such as Single page, or the selected route name when Best fit is following a route.
Zoom Or Print Scale
By default, printing uses a zoom value such as 100%. Higher zoom values print more map detail over a smaller ground area. Lower zoom values cover more ground with less detail.
Use Print to Scale in Print Settings when you want the toolbar to show a fixed print scale instead of a zoom value. The scale value button can then show options such as 1:25k or 1:50k.
Scale printing is not only for one map provider or one country. Use the scale that matches the map and the job. For example, OS Explorer and Landranger users may recognise 1:25,000 and 1:50,000, while other map types may use different useful scales.
For more background on map scales, see Map Scales.
Page Layouts
Use the layout button to choose how many pages OMN4 should use:
- Single page prints one page centred on the current map view.
- 2 pages: Side by side prints two pages horizontally.
- 2 pages: Above and below prints two pages vertically.
- 4 pages (2×2), 9 pages (3×3), 16 pages (4×4), and 25 pages (5×5) cover larger areas as tiled page sets.
- Best fit arranges pages around a selected route or track.
For route and track printing, start with Route Printing so OMN4 can select Best fit for the item you want.
Page Overlap
Use Page Overlap in Print Settings for multi-page prints. Overlap repeats part of the map between neighbouring pages so you have continuity when moving from one sheet to the next.
More overlap gives you more shared map area, but it also means more duplicated map on the print job. Single-page prints do not need overlap.
