Downloading Maps

If you have a subscription that allows map downloads, you can download your maps for offline use. This ensures you have access to your maps even when you don't have an internet connection.

Download Options

You can either download complete map products or selectively choose individual maps. Note that some map data sets are very large, and downloading a complete set can take a considerable amount of time.

Understanding the Grid System

Many large map datasets are organised into 100km squares using the National Grid system. When downloading, you can select specific grid squares that cover your area of interest rather than downloading the entire dataset.

How to Download Maps

On PC/macOS

  1. Open the My Maps screen
  2. Expand the map product you want to download
  3. Select the specific maps or grid squares you need
  4. Click "Download"

On Mobile (iOS/Android)

  1. Tap the menu button and select "Map Management"
  2. Expand the map product
  3. Select the maps you need
  4. Tap "Download"

iOS Considerations

If you're downloading multiple maps on iPhone or iPad, keep the My Maps window active in the foreground. iOS may interrupt downloads if the app is in the background.

Checking Download Status

Maps display their status in the My Maps screen:

  • Installed: Fully downloaded and available offline
  • Partial: Some tiles downloaded
  • Downloadable: Not yet downloaded, requires internet to view

Testing Offline Access

To verify your maps work offline:

  1. Enable Airplane Mode on your device
  2. Open OMN and navigate to your downloaded area
  3. Confirm the maps display correctly
