Recording Tracklogs
Recording Tracklogs
A tracklog is a recording of the path you travelled on the ground. OMN can record your position using your device's GPS and save it as a tracklog.
Starting a Tracklog
- Tap the menu button (three lines, bottom right)
- Select Start Tracklog
- OMN begins recording your position
The recording interval is controlled by settings in Settings > GPS Markers and Tracklogs.
Recording Controls
While recording, tapping the menu button reveals:
- Pause Tracklog: Temporarily stops recording and ends the current segment
- Stop Tracklog: Ends all recording
When paused, you can:
- Resume Tracklog: Continues recording in a new segment
- Stop Tracklog: Ends the session
Understanding Segments
A tracklog can contain one or more segments:
- Each time you pause, the current segment ends
- Resuming creates a new segment within the same tracklog
- Segments are useful for excluding breaks or transport sections
GPS Button Indicators
During recording, the GPS button shows:
- Red outer ring or arrows: Active tracking in progress
- Green centre: Good GPS position fix
- Orange centre: Poor or delayed position fix
Tap the GPS button when off-centre to recentre the map on your current position.
Saving Your Tracklog
When you stop recording, your tracklog is automatically saved. You can:
- View it in the GPX Manager
- Sync it to your other devices
- Export it to share with others
Tips for Good Tracklogs
- Ensure GPS permissions are enabled for OMN
- Start recording before you begin walking
- Keep your device where it has a clear view of the sky
- Check battery settings aren't restricting GPS in the background
