Printing Maps
OMN allows you to print high-quality Ordnance Survey maps for use in the outdoors. This guide covers the basics of printing on PC and macOS.
Quick Start Guide
Step 1: Access Print Function
- PC: Click the Print button on the toolbar
- macOS: Select Print from the menu
Step 2: Select Printer and Adjust Zoom
- Select your desired printer from the dropdown
- Zoom out on the map to reveal the black lines marking the Print Area
Note: Adjust the map's zoom level, not the print dialog's zoom setting.
Step 3: Position Your Map
You can move the map with the mouse as you normally would. The black printing outline stays steady, allowing you to position exactly which section of map you want to print.
Step 4: Configure Options
Optionally enable:
- Print Grid Lines: Adds OS grid lines to your printout
- Print Grid Numbers: Adds grid reference numbers
Step 5: Print
Click Print to send to your printer.
Understanding the Print Area
The black outline on screen represents the exact area that will be printed. Everything inside the outline will appear on your printout.
Tips for Good Prints
- Use good quality paper for outdoor use
- Consider laminating prints for weather protection
- Print at 100% scale for accurate grid references
- Test with a draft print first
