Tracklog Settings
OMN4 manages tracklog recording cadence automatically. The Tracklogs settings let you choose where mobile tracklogs are saved, how the active recording line is coloured, and how track distance totals are filtered.
Open The Settings
On mobile, open Settings and then Tracklogs.
On desktop, open Settings and then Tracklogs to change only Track Distance Threshold. Desktop OMN4 does not record tracklogs, but it can review tracks recorded or imported elsewhere.
What You Can Change
- Folder to save Tracklogs (mobile)
- Track Distance Threshold (mobile and desktop)
- Recording Tracklog Colour (mobile, defaults to red, #FFFF0000)
OMN4 selects and saves track points automatically, so there is no capture distance or time interval for you to set before starting a tracklog.
Use Folder to save Tracklogs when you want recorded data grouped somewhere specific. Use Recording Tracklog Colour when you want the active recording line to stand out on the map.
Recording Tracklog Colour syncs through your OMN account, so another signed-in mobile device uses the same colour after it syncs. The folder used for new recordings remains a choice for each device.
Track Distance Threshold controls how OMN4 filters very small GPS movements when it totals the distance of a recorded track. Choose Unfiltered, 3 m, 5 m (the default), or 7 m. Higher values reduce the extra distance that GPS jitter can add when you are stationary or moving slowly. This affects the calculated total distance only. It does not change which points are recorded, and every recorded point is still shown.
Recording Behaviour
- OMN4 checks your location about once a second while recording.
- Android and iOS may batch or optimise those fixes to save battery.
- OMN4 saves a track point once you have moved about 5 m, or once about 10 seconds have passed since the last saved point, whichever comes first. This happens automatically, with no interval for you to set.
Background Recording
Background recording needs the right platform permission before you rely on it.
- On Android, set OMN4 location permission to Allow all the time. Battery optimisation can still affect long recordings on some devices.
- On iOS, set OMN4 location permission to Always if you want tracklogs to continue in the background.
