GPS Marker and Accuracy
The GPS marker shows where OMN4 thinks you are and how confident the device is about that position. The marker is a mobile GPS feature; on desktop, you are usually reviewing saved data rather than following a live position.
What The Marker States Mean
- Searching means GPS is on but the app is still waiting for a usable fix.
- Live position means OMN4 has a fix and is drawing your current location.
- Recentre state means you have moved the map away from your live position and can tap GPS to recentre.
- Tracklog state means recording is active or paused.
Accuracy Ring
The accuracy ring around the GPS marker represents position uncertainty. A smaller ring generally means the device is more confident about the position. A larger ring means you should allow for more spread around the marker.
Why The Marker Can Change Colour Or Feel
OMN4 distinguishes between stronger and weaker fixes. In plain terms:
- A stronger fix looks more confident.
- A weaker fix may still be usable, but you should allow for more position spread.
Why The Marker Disappears
If GPS is off or the device is not supplying a usable fix, OMN4 cannot draw a reliable live marker.
Customising The GPS Marker
On mobile, open Settings and then GPS Marker to adjust the marker appearance.
The settings are:
- Outer ring size
- Outer ring thickness
- Outer ring colour
- Internal shading colour
- Direction line thickness
- Direction line colour
These settings change how the GPS marker is drawn. They do not change the device's actual GPS accuracy.
